I enjoyed Tessa's comments in Click Z. Having been in online ad sales management for 10 years, I agree that pitching concepts and the learning that can be achieved from new media ideas is the best way to go rather than just pitching a campaign. In the early stages of a startup interactive advertising opportunity, reps have to give agencies a strong reason to try the media and really illustrate the data and case studies that can be generated. We set up a Web site to help interactive ad salespeople identify great sales opportunities. There's also a blog where online salespeople can exchange ideas on the industry and how they are succeeding in this highly competitive environment.
