Facebook presents 360-degree mobile ad prototype at Cannes

At Cannes Lions yesterday, Facebook presented a prototype of the mobile ads of the future: 360-degree, interactive, vertical videos – self-contained within the app.

The format is aimed at attracting advertisers who would normally gravitate toward television to target an audience – much like Snapchat’s “3V” focus videos.

It’s not surprising that Facebook are keen to make progress in video. For the first three months of 2015, mobile ads raked in 73 per cent of the company’s ad revenues — a sharp increase from 30 per cent during the same time period in 2013.

Facebook didn’t say when the ads will roll out, but we’re guessing it won’t be too far off if the company have already presented it to advertisers.
