Twitter is preparing to launch itself as serious platform for ecommerce by adding a ‘buy’ button to its service, according to reports.
The microblogging site is partnering with Shopify, whose 100,000 merchants will be able to sell their products and services online as part of the deal.
Twitter started sharing the bigger details of the ‘buy’ button launching back in June. In a blog post, product manager Amaryllis Fox said that Twitter would be organising relevant tweets about products and places on dedicated pages that would feature images and video about products alongside a description, price and option to buy.
“We’ll show you images and a description right above the tweets that are most timely and relevant to you. These may be tweets from accounts you follow, relevant news updates, or popular content about the [product],” Fox said.
