In April, Google revealed the development of its third-party push API via Chrome, allowing websites to send push notifications to users accessing their mobile websites. Facebook has now followed suit, so that those using mobile Chrome and visiting m.facebook.com will be given the option to switch on notifications.
The announcement marks a leap forward in the development of mobile communications, and will enable companies to reach out and communicate with its users to offer key updates without using an app.
