Recent dispute surrounding Marmite’s latest advert, which offers a tongue-in-cheek approach to animal rescue programmes, has finally been cleared by the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) which has ruled that it will not launch an investigation into the advert after complaints were made.
A total number of 504 official complaints were made to the ASA after the ad was launched on TV and online earlier this month. Viewers argued that the ad was “deeply offensive” due to its trivial depiction of the work that both animal welfare charities and child protection agencies carry out.
The ASA commented: “They were unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence or to be irresponsible and were unlikely to cause undue fear or distress to young viewers. They were light-hearted in tone and did not trivialise issues of abuse or denigrate the work of child and animal protection services.”
As well as this, Marmite owner Unilever recently donated £18,000 to RSPCA in a bid to prove their support to the causes they apparently offended.
