A Cincinnati, OH-based ISP launched a free-to-the-user ad-backed access service in six major markets.

Tritium Network is now operational in Cincinnati, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., New York and San Francisco.

The dial-up service is based on AdPath technology, a push application that shows ads at the bottom of screens, according to an Adweek report. Ads change about every 30 seconds.

Users are required to provide demographic data and fill out monthly questionnaires about buying habits. In turn, Tritium will target ads based on the answers, in an app residing on the desktop. Tritium said it will also provide free email as well as chat and news groups service by this summer.
