Nick Denton is selling two sites and shuffling the editorial ranks at Gawker Media, part of a move to tighten operations. Up for sale are tabloid site Sploid and humor/video aggregator Screenhead. “A change in the advertising industry’s conventional wisdom, cutbacks by the studios: it wouldn’t take much to prick the current exuberance,” Denton wrote on his blog. “Better to sober up now, before the end of the party.”
Agency.com created a digital component for a new sweepstakes from Choice Hotels International. A “digital wishing well” asks site visitors to answer the question, “What would you do with a million dollars?” Banners are driving traffic to the promotion, which runs through August 18.
Think Partnership hired Stan Antonuk as chief operating officer. He joins from InterActive Corporation, where he helped found e-commerce destination HSN.com. He replaces George Douaire, who becomes president of the company’s consumer services division. Think also named John Linden, CEO of its Litmus Media subsidiary, to the post of CTO.
Medical Broadcasting Company, a digital marketing firm focused on the healthcare vertical, made several hires. Stephen Chiles joins as SVP and account group director, Alex Gochtovtt as director of research and analysis, and Cara Levinson as director of business strategy.
Compete hired Michael Perlman as a director of its financial services practice. Perlman worked at Falcon Investment Advisors.
