A weekend upgrade turns into a weekday headache for paid search advertisers.
A weekend systems upgrade at Yahoo Search Marketing has turned into a weekday headache. The company was working to resolve technical issues late Wednesday that resulted in advertisers having difficulties accessing their accounts all this week.
“Yahoo Search Marketing initiated a systems upgrade this past weekend to lay the groundwork for performance and availability improvements that our advertisers will see over the coming months. During this process, we encountered some unexpected issues that affected advertisers’ ability to access their accounts,” a Yahoo spokesperson told ClickZ News. “Our number one priority right now is to restore service for our advertisers, so we are working around the clock to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
The technical problems have caused some advertisers to experience slowdowns in access. Others have been unable to access their accounts altogether. Some who could log-in got messages apologizing for system slowness or delays in bid updates.
Paid search advertisers took to Web discussion forums to compare notes on the problem.
“I haven’t been able to manage my account of sponsored search for the past 24 hours + got one tenth of the usual traffic from overture in the last 48 hours,” wrote one advertiser in the Search Engine Watch forums.
