Nickelodeon is giving tech-savvy preschoolers (and their parents) a sneak peek of a new cable TV series set for fall debut, via a video podcast that’s expected to launch today.
The preview of the TV series, called “Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!” will be available as part of what appears to be the first video podcast created especially for children ages 2 to 5 — the “Wubbcast”. To launch the podcast, Nick Jr. partnered with Bolder Media for Boys & Girls along with Channel Frederator, an online channel for cartoon shorts founded by former Hanna-Barbera Cartoons President Fred Seibert.
“Viewers have been begging for original content for their preschoolers. The Wubbcast is for them,” said Siebert in a statement.
Parents and their preschoolers who check out the initial Wubbcast can see a music video from the premiere episode of the new series, presumably enticing them to tune in when it debuts. Users can access the podcast via a Video iPod, a Sony PSP or a mobile phone with video capability. It will also be available on NickJrVideo.com, NickJr.com and Channel Frederator.
“Young parents are big users of technology and the Wubbcast is a great way to bring them new Nick Jr. programs that entertain and educate,” said Brown Johnson, executive creative director of Nickelodeon Preschool Television, in a statement.
Nickelodeon hasn’t said whether it will continue to make “sneak previews” available via the Wubbcast podcast.
