Lifestyle email newsletter DailyCandy has snared the advertising director at Condé Nast’s Lucky Magazine, Michelle Thorpe Holubar, as its first publisher.
As ad director at Lucky, Holubar oversaw one of the magazine industry’s greatest success stories in recent history. Prior to Lucky, Holubar worked at Allure and US Weekly. Now, she’ll be charged with raising DailyCandy’s profile within the advertising community. She starts later this month.
“DailyCandy has incredible momentum, from a growing portfolio of daily publications to an incredibly loyal audience and enviable audience demographics,” said Holubar in a statement.
The company publishes six daily email newsletters. Five are tailored for audiences in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Boston. The sixth is a catch-all “Everywhere” title. Two weekly publications, DailyCandy Travel and Kids, are also part of the company’s portfolio.
DailyCandy sells advertising space in the newsletters, on its accompanying Web site, and in dedicated emails that it sends to subscribers. The company declined to get specific about its subscriber numbers, saying only that it reached “hundreds of thousands of young and affluent subscribers.”
“We have been looking for exactly the right publisher to take DailyCandy to the next level with advertisers and marketers, and Michelle has all the right qualifications,” said Dany Levy, DailyCandy’s founder and editor-in-chief, in a statement.
Among DailyCandy’s investors is reportedly media mogul Bob Pittman, the former AOL Time Warner executive.
Neither Holubar nor current DailyCandy executives were available to answer questions by press time.
