U.S. Banks Top Typosquatting Targets

Not surprisingly, Web sites for banks are some of the most tempting targets for "typosquatters," according to CitizenHawk

CitizenHawk.pngNot surprisingly, Web sites for banks are some of the most tempting targets for “typosquatters,” according to CitizenHawk. The company launched recently to help companies protect their brand names and customers from criminals and cybersquatters that use slightly misspelled URLs to redirect traffic.

CitizenHawk says there are over 10,000 cybersquatting domains infringing on the trademarks of ten of the top U.S. retail bank Web sites, including Bank of America, Capital One and others. Of course, as a company that makes its business in helping find and shut down such domains it behooves CitizenHawk to make a lot of noise about the potential dangers to banks, but even so it seems like a significant number.
