Amazon recently took a big step forward and upped their digital content game by hiring axed Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, along with the show’s other two former presenters. In an interview with the Telegraph at the weekend, the e-commerce giant admitted the move was “very, very, very expensive.”
Amazon snapped up the trio for a 36 episode, £160m deal, which will culminate in a series in 2016. Jeff Bezos gave little away in terms of future content – hoping to attract subscribers to its £79 a year Prime service.
“We have a lot of things in the pipeline, which I think viewers in the UK and around the world are going to love, and I think Clarkson’s new show is going to be one of those”, he revealed. “I think we’re in a golden age of television, so if you go back in time even just five years, you couldn’t get A-list talent to do TV serials, or, if you could, it was a rare thing. But that’s flipped completely.”
