Recent announcements that revealed the beloved fictional British heroine, Bridget Jones, is to be returning to our lives once more caused widespread joy for much of her fan-base. However, followers of Bridget have taken to Twitter to vent their anger after a couple of major national newspapers revealed a huge spoiler about the upcoming novel.
The third Bridget Jones book, ‘Mad About the Boy’, reportedly looks at Bridget’s life as a forty-something woman dealing with social media and new technology, as well as her encounters with old romantic flames.
It is no surprise then, that when newspaper outlets such as The Australian published a massive spoiler about the novel on the front-page of their paper, as well as online, women around the world got a bit, er, angry.
@Gothamist entitled its tweet about the event ‘Shocking Spoiler For New Bridget Jones Novel Ruins Everyone’s Lives’, with @JacquelineMaley asking ‘how could you @australian !?!?’
The news serves as a warning to news publications around the world: Never get between people and their love of a lovable heroine’s messy life.
