Digital will equal ¼ of global media ad spend in 2014

According to new research, spending on ads catered for internet-connected devices will reach USD 137.53bn this year.

The research, from eMarketer, refers to devices such as desktop and laptop computers, mobile phones and tablets. Digital spend will increase 14.8 over figures reached last year and will make up for one-quarter of total global media ad spending.

The US is the highest-spending region, nearly two in five digital ad dollars will come from advertisers in the US. Western Europe accounts for nearly one-quarter of all digital spending around the world, and other regions make up just a small share.

Further insight from eMarketer suggests that that by 2018, total media spending will reach USD 656.3bn.

While the US is the highest spender on digital media in terms of absolute dollars, it’s the UK that sports the highest share of total media spending on digital channels, at 47.5% expected this year. That compares with 40.1% in second-place Denmark, 37.5% in third-place Australia, and 27.9% in the US.
