Brands will soon be allowed to contact consumers on the popular messenger service WhatsApp, Facebook has confirmed.
The move follows Facebook’s $21.8bn purchase of the communication service in 2014.
David Wehner, Facebook chief financial officer, confirmed the announcement at a tech conference based in Boston.
Bloomberg reports Wehner said: “We think that enabling that B2C messaging has good business potential for us.
“As we learn those things, I think there’s going to be opportunities to bring some of those things to WhatsApp, but that’s more longer-term than the near-term.”
