Chief Financial Officer Anthony Noto made a bit of a blunder this week when he publicly tweeted about a plan he has to buy a company. The message was posted on Twitter, but deleted shortly after. Twitter spokesman Jim Prosser confirmed after that Noto was trying to send the message privately.
The Tweet, which read: “I still think we should buy them,” Mr. Noto tweeted. “He is on your schedule for Dec 15 or 16 — we will need to sell him. I have a plan”, did not say who the message was for, or which company he’s interested in purchasing.
Improving the way private and public messaging works is one of Twitter’s top goals for its product, executives said at a meeting with investors earlier this month.

Hi Craig. Twitter’s DM platform has long been criticised and is going to change – which is why this bit of news was reported – to highlight its flaws. This is also part of a ‘FAIL’ feature we’ve been doing for a while, where we highlight campaigns etc. that have gone wrong. I’ve since read that this Tweet was deliberate. No issue with the subject matter Leighann, I was questioning the flimsy coverage. Please, a little more analysis and a little less regurgitation. On balance, I usually find .rising content reasonably informative, but felt this particular update fell well short of the mark.
