Bump, a company that allows both iOS and Android users to share contact information and files by literally bumping their phones together, announced this week that it is ‘thrilled’ to be joining the team at Google, as the search engine giant seeks to offer its customers greater choice in how to share information.
Group photo-sharing app Flock is also included in the deal, that some news sources are suggesting cost the internet giant a figure in the realm of $40m.
The acquisition potentially offers Google users a cloud-based alternative to sharing info via near field communications (NFC) – the technology that is currently used on the Google Wallet.
Owners at Bump explained that Google is perfect fit for their technology, as it too is a “company that shares our belief that the application of computing to difficult problems can fundamentally change the way that we interact with one another and the world.”
