Google is launching an ad campaign for mobile that will include a partnership with The New York Times for banner ads based on breaking news.

Google will run banners that feed off headlines on The New York Times‘s homepage. Copy in the banner ads will go “to the next level on any particular topics that are trending for The New York Times”, Google’s VP-branding Jeff Whipps told Ad Age.

According to a report, the campaign ranks up there with Google’s most significant investments – along the lines of Chrome and Play and others.
