After Apple failed to sell as many iPhones in its third quarter as analysts had hoped, more than $66bn of Apple’s value has been wiped due to fear that popularity has peaked.

Apple sold 47.5m iPhones in the third quarter which is up 35% on the same period last year – but the number was short of analysts’ expectations of 48.8m. iPad sales fell 18% to 10.9m, the sixth consecutive quarter of declines, while Apple sold 4.8m Macs, up 8.7%.

Apple expects to see revenues of between $49bn and $51bn in its fourth quarter – less than the $51.1bn forecast by analysts.

Apple shares fell 8.8% in after-hours trading, after closing down 1% at $130.75, reports The Telegraph.
