Twitter has announced that it will release mobile-app install ads to the advertising community, following in Facebook’s footsteps.
After a successful month-long trial, ads will now appear in Twitter’s news feed with direct links to apps on Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
The new extension “could be a profitable new product for Twitter, which is finding ways to wring more ad dollars from its users as it manages slowing user growth,” commented The Wall Street Journal (WSJ)
According to the WSJ Mobile-app install ads made up 59% of Facebook’s total revenue in the first quarter, up from 30% a year earlier.
Advertisers will be able to set up a campaign capable of targeting one billion unique devices along specifics such as keywords, TV show preferences and interests.
“The mobile-app install ad could become the poster child of these efforts as Twitter continues to search for ways to increase advertising revenue for the long haul,” said the WSJ.
