Following the tragic death of the Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes last year, grieving fan Paul D Taylor lent his cricket bat against his front door in a show of respect.
He took a picture of the tribute and posted it onto Twitter complete with the hashtag #putoutyourbats. What followed was an international-wide show of support, with people, stadiums and statues sharing their own images on Twitter.
Taylor, a Sydney cricket fan, later tweeted he was “amazed and humbled” by the response.
Hughes, who was wearing a helmet, collapsed after being hit by a ball on the back of the neck.
