Six European countries are the focus of a new portal deal.
In a portal deal aimed at attracting users to auction site QXL.com, the company on Monday unveiled a partnership with Lycos Europe, which will put QXL.com on Lycos’ properties for six European countries.
The deal gives QXL a presence on all Lycos sites across the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. QXL will get positions on the Lycos Home Page, Shopping Center, and certain Lycos Directories. It will also appear on the Tripod Home page, Shopping Zones, the Pods and the Buy/Sell Area.
The agreement brings together two major players in the European Internet business. In total, the Lycos properties claim more than 400 million page impressions a month. QXL, by focusing on Europe, is thought to be doing well in its competition with US auction giant, eBay. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, and the companies didn’t say how long the contract would run.
“This is a significant partnership for QXL, providing us with an excellent opportunity to reach the greatest number of people across Europe through Lycos’ extensive network,” said Jim Rose, chief executive officer of QXL.com.
