RIP: Microsoft officially lays Nokia brand to rest

It’s official. The mobile brand responsible for deflowering a mobile generation is no more.

It’s official. The mobile brand responsible for deflowering a mobile generation is no more.

In an a post on Nokia France’s Facebook page, the company said that the account will soon be changing its name to “Microsoft Lumia” – following Microsoft’s $7bn acquisition.

Microsoft confirmed to The Verge that other countries will soon follow the same rebranding steps.

The news comes as Microsoft had already phased the Nokia brand out of several new updates, including Windows Phone Store apps, such as Treasure Tag and App Social.

Microsoft Mobile is now the official name for Nokia’s former device business.

However, the decision to drop the Nokia brand itself does not mean that Nokia is erased from brand history, what’s left now exists as a separate company. The Finnish institution now focuses on mapping and network infrastructure.
