Sainsbury’s is trialling a new app that will allow customers to build a shopping basket at home, then direct them to products in-store and pay for them at the shelf.
Born out of the supermarkets digital hub, the aim of the new app is to cut time spent at stores and queuing at tills. The app will allow users to pay for products using their mobile, utilising the growing payment method.
The app is expected to be first available to Nectar cardholders in 2015.
Jon Rudoe, digital and technology director at Sainsbury’s, commented: “We know that customers’ weekly shop doesn’t start at our front door – they know what they like and they also like that search for a bargain.
“They still want to come into store – but with limited time, they want to be able to get their shop done quickly.
“That’s why we’re putting digital firmly at the forefront of our agenda, and putting technology in the hands of our customers.”
