In a bid to please its Google Glass-clad customers, Tesco has launched an app for tech-savvy shoppers to see nutritional information or add groceries to their virtual basket.
The Tesco Groceries app is available this week, and will allow users to scan any Tesco grocery in the comfort of their own home.
Created in-house by the supermarket’s R&D arm – Tesco Labs – the app isn’t the only tech innovation being explored by the chain, with engineers considering how to integrate wearables into the online shopping process.
Google Glass shoppers will be able to summon products by saying “OK Glass, find a product…cheese” to bring up information and buying options, according to innovation engineer Pablo Coberly.
This was “just the beginning of the journey” for Google Glass and Tesco said Coberly.
He said: “We are keen to discover how we can take Glass further, how we can improve the experience for customers and what [customers’] thoughts on Glass and other wearables are.”
