Twitter Opens NYC Outpost, Snares Facebook Office Manager

It appears Twitter has hired away an NYC office manager from Facebook.

Twitter has opened a long-awaited New York office. Confirming this morning’s speculation, Twitter’s communications team stated in a post around 12:30 EST today, “#TwitterNYC is now open. [Insert NYC cliché/bird pun here. We’ll retweet the best one.]”

twitter-nycThe firm’s head of culture Elizabeth Weil had been leaving clues on her Twitter account in recent days, and posting photos of what appears to be the new digs. This is the first official New York location for the San Francisco company. In the past, in some cases, Twitter has used a communal office space near Union Square for New York meetings.

“Ground was broken today! A new era begins… #NEWTwitterHQ!!!!” wrote Caroline Quick, facilities manager at Twitter, on her @seacue account on July 25. Since then, several posts employing the #twitterNYC hashtag have been spotted.

AllThingsD was the first to confirm existence of the new Twitter office. Twitter did not respond to ClickZ’s request for comment in time for publication of this story.

It also appears that Twitter has hired away a New York office manager from Facebook. “First day working at #TwitterNYC tomorrow. Can’t wait! #firstdayjitters,” wrote Kelsey Silver, whose LinkedIn account states she has been an office manager for Facebook in New York City since February 2011.

Twitter’s New York office will be used to house sales staff and other employees, according to a Twitter spokesperson who declined to comment on the office manager position. The company rolled out a new ad format last week. The “Promoted Tweets to Followers” offering exposes paid tweets from advertisers by placing them at or near the top of their followers’ timelines. According to Twitter, advertisers testing the format include Best Western, Dell, Gatorade, Groupon, HBO, JetBlue, LivingSocial, Microsoft Xbox, Red Bull, Sephora, Starbucks, TNT, and Virgin America.
