An annual report from the networking experts at Cisco has revealed that a continued increase in connected devices, wearable tech and ‘The Internet of Things’ will lead to a massive increase in mobile data by 2018.
According to the report, the number of global wearable devices will increase from just under 22 million in 2013 to nearly 177 million by 2018, leading it to share around 0.5% of smartphone traffic by that date, an impressive 36-fold increase from its contribution last year.
The wearable market is set to be worth an estimated $30 billion in four years time, with new devices from tech giants such as Google, Samsung and Apple predicted to shake it up and attract new consumers looking to stay ahead of the digital market.
Cisco predicts the number of mobile devices and connections will skyrocket from seven billion at the end of last year to 10 billion by 2018 – highlighting the continued importance of mobile optimisation and the importance of social media in grabbing the attention of mobile consumers.
