WTF is going on with Snapchat?

The happy-snappers among you may have noticed an influx of emojis decorating your Snapchat feed following a recent app update: but what do they mean?

An move hailed to “change your life”, the new ‘Snapchat Friends Emoji’ update lets you see who your Snapchat BF’s really are.

Take a look at the list below, which breaks down what the new Emoji’s mean, according to TechCrunch:

• Gold Heart – You’re #1 Best Friends – The person you send snaps to most sends snaps to you most too
• Grimace/Grit Teeth – You Have A Mutual #1 Best Friend – The person you send snaps to most is also who this person sends snaps to most
• Smile – One Of Your Best Friends – This is one of the people you send snaps to most
• Sunglasses – You Have A Mutual Best Friend – One of the people you send snaps to most is also one of the people this person sends snaps to most
• Smirk – You’re Their Best Friend But They’re Not Yours – You’re one of the people they send snaps to most, but they’re not one of the people you send snaps to most
• Fire – You Two Are On A Snapstreak – You and this person have sent snaps back and forth for the number of consecutive days shown

Previously Snapchat used to feature a “best friends” list that publicly declared who you sent the majority of your snaps to. Snapchat ditched this feature in favour of the ‘Snapchat Friends Emoji’ – which aren’t public.

Another update also highlights friends you haven’t snapped with in a while will – putting them under the “Needs Love” section, encouraging you to get snapping.

The new update also includes a new low-light mode for your phone’s camera, accessible by pressing a moon icon that now shows up at the top of the screen.
