Yep, contactless payment donkey rides exist

In what must be one of the most necessary digital innovations in recent times, Blackpool’s famous donkey rides can now be paid for with the swipe of a card – thanks to Barclaycard.

Commenting on the cashless overhaul of his donkey Dillon, Mark Ineson, who has been running donkey rides for 17-years said the change “is just a matter of moving with the times”.

Tami Hargreaves, Barclaycard’s head of contactless, said: “we could see the roll out of more Contactless Donkeys.

“Assuming that Dillon’s pioneering approach in going cashless is a success, we could see the roll out of more Contactless Donkeys everywhere next summer. In fact, we’re constantly building on the market leading innovations we have delivered, and we have exciting projects in the pipeline which are set to shape the future of payments.”

If the digital world has extended its capabilities to Dillion the donkey, one must cross their fingers and hope for more payment innovations up and down the Country – an ice-cream van willing to take plastic for a 99 Flake perhaps?
