YouTube has thrown money at some of its biggest vloggers in an attempt to keep them on the channel, as rival services continue to poach social stars.
YouTube is offering some stars bonuses to sign multi-year deals – with exclusivity clauses – and are even offering to fund additional programming as the service tries to preserve its market dominance.
A spokesperson for YouTube said the move was a continuation of the support it has already awarded its video creators. They said the video site has “been increasing that support through a broad range of activities including marketing and content funding.”
Competitors, such as start-up video subscription service Vessel, has been attempting to lure popular vloggers to its platform – which posts content exclusively to its platform for at least three days before it is posted anywhere else.
