WhatsApp boasts 600m active users a month

WhatsApp has reported that it has 600m monthly “active and registered” users, adding 833,000 per day since April this year.

WhatsApp has reported that it has 600m monthly “active and registered” users, adding 833,000 per day since April this year.

The mobile messaging app saw its users climb to 500m in late April, meaning it has gained 25m new active users per month since then.

When completing the $19-billion takeover deal last February, Mark Zuckerburg told the founders he wanted the messaging service to “connect 4 to 5 billion people over the next five years”. The latest news shows promising signs.

Whatsapp CEO Jan Koem revealed the latest set of figures on Twitter – taking a dig at companies that are shy of revealing total active users.

She said: “Now serving 600,000,000 monthly active users. Yes, active and registered are very different types of numbers…”
