Sainsbury’s and Argos have inked a deal that will establish 10 new digital format stores within its supermarkets.
Reports from Reuters suggest that Argos will open 10 stores within the boundaries of Sainsbury’s commercial sites, taking up between 1,000 and 5,000 square feet, by this summer.
Argos will equip stores with iPads so that people can access the full product range within the shop. Around 20,000 products will be available in-store or for collection, with a further 40,000 products that can be selected for home delivery.
The partnership allows Argos to expand its digital store format at the same time as extending its retail footprint as the brand attempts to battle flat sales. The move also compliments Sainsbury’s desire to fill space, as surplus becomes a worry in the face of more local, online consumer spending.
