A new poll released by Greenlight digital marketing agency has revealed that 15% of Facebook users would be willing to pay for an ad-free experience on the site. According to the survey of 500 people, 8% of people would be happy to spend $5 to $10, or more.
The news comes after Twitter co-founder Biz Stone went public with comments suggesting that Facebook should consider a premium service that charges users $10 a month for an ad-free service. He estimated that if just 10% of users signed up, Facebook could rake in $1bn a month.
The survey was also conducted ahead of Facebook’s publication of its Q2 financial results for, which exceeded expectations by showing that the site generates $1.6bn in advertising revenue and $655.6m from mobile ads.
The poll formed part of Greenlight’s global annual ‘Search & Social Survey (2012-2013)’ which asked 500 people across a range of professions how they engage with online advertising, search engines, and social networks.
