A whopping 17 million people worldwide booked a stay using Airbnb this summer – a 353-fold increase in the last five years.

Following its 2008 launch with just three guests, just over 47,000 people used the site to find a place to stay in the summer of 2010, and 30 million booked stays on Airbnb this year.

According to Airbnb’s summer travel report, guests came from more than 57,000 cities and 150 different countries. More than half of the guests this last year were women (54% female, 46% male), and the average traveler’s age was 35 years old.
