Ben Silbermann, CEO & Co-Founder of Pinterest has announced in a blog post titled ‘Planning for the future’ that the online scrapbooking site will “start experimenting with promoting certain pins from a select group of businesses” in order to make sure that “Pinterest is a service that will be here to stay”.
According to him, the promoted pins will not be banners or pop-up ads and will instead be ‘tasteful’. Silbermann also explains that it will be clear which pins are being promoted because they have been paid for.
They will also be relevant: “These pins should be about stuff you’re actually interested in, like a delicious recipe, or a jacket that’s your style.”
In a trial run of this business model, the social media site will promote pins without having anyone pay for them in order to see the kind of feedback and response they receive from users.
