Execs & Accounts for May 5, 2004

Tacoda Systems hires a president and chief operating officer; Rainbow Entertainment names a VP of content and packaging for all digital media.

Tacoda Systems hired former Time Warner exec Curtis Viebranz as president and chief operating officer.

Viebranz is one of Tacoda’s original investors and has served on the company’s board since its inception. He joins from OLE Communications, a Latin American media company, where he served for a short time after spending 17 years at Time Warner and its predecessor company, Time Inc. While there, he was variously president of HBO International, Time Inc. Europe and HBO Video.

While Tacoda started as an audience management company, the firm has recently expanded its ambitions and begun building a pay-per-click network.

Rainbow Entertainment named Todd Tarpley VP of content and packaging for all digital media under the American Movie Channel (AMC), the Independent Film Channel (IFC) and Women’s Entertainment (WE).

Tarpley previously did consulting work for these same properties through his own firm, Tarpley Media. He will service the digital media needs of AMC, IFC and WE through the management of an in-house content packaging unit.

“Todd is one of our industry’s most successful digital media innovators, with a tremendous track record of creating and building profitable products and services,” said Cynthia Burnell, Rainbow’s SVP and general manager of digital media.

Before forming Tarpley Media, Tarpley was VP of interactive media at Bravo Networks and served as VP of interactive for A&E Television Networks.

Direct and digital marketing player SendTec made Steven Morvay its managing director. For five years, Morvay has acted as managing partner of marketing consultancy Morvay Group, prior to which he was president of direct marketer Collier Newfield.

“Mr. Morvay’s 25 plus years of marketing, direct marketing and advertising experience will be a tremendous asset to our organization and to our clients,” said SendTec CEO Paul Soltoff.

Newspaper Agency Corporation, agent for Utah’s two largest newspapers, has expanded its license of Accipiter’s AdManager ad serving product. The company can now serve approximately double the ads it could before on the Web sites of The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret Morning News.
