Advertising group Havas has expanded its U.K. operation with the acquisition of independent media agency BLM. Havas will merge BLM with Arena Media Communications, with the resulting entity being branded ‘Arena BLM.’
BLM currently has relationships with mainstream U.K. advertisers including Setanta Sports, Paul Smith clothing and Domino’s Pizza.
A key influencing factor in the acquisition appears to be BLM’s integrated digital arm Quantum, in which Havas sees “strong potential” according to a press release. Its offerings include strategic consulting, e-mail marketing, search advertising and measurement services for clients including FilmFour, Maxim and Thomas Cook.
The merger forms part of Havas’ strategy to consolidate growth in core mature markets, and build on its success with U.K. brands, including interactive media agency Media Contacts. Arena Global CEO Joaquin Bohoquez stated, “The launch demonstrates our commitment to the U.K. as it strengthens the Group’s media offer in this key market for the benefit of its local and international clients.”
Newly formed Arena BLM will be managed by Steve Booth, current BLM CEO, who will report to Bohorquez.
In addition to yesterday’s announcement, Havas CEO Fernando Rodes Vila was recently quoted by the Wall Street Journal as saying that one or two more deals valued from 15 million euros to 60 million euros ($22.16 million to $88.65 million) are possible in the “near future.”
Havas executives were unreachable by press time.
