Agency.com CEO Scales Resigns

Strategic differences are cited; the search is underway for a successor.

Agency.com CEO Don Scales has resigned his position over “strategic differences,” according to a spokesperson. The agency is now seeking a successor and expects to announce an appointment in the coming weeks. Further details were not immediately available.

Scales took the reins at Agency.com in July 2004, following the resignation of longtime chief executive and founder Chan Suh, who remains on as chairman to this day. Scales’ ascendancy was spread out over several years, from his hire in 2001 as head of the Dallas office to his promotion to president and COO three years ago.

Since he landed the top spot, Agency.com has developed campaigns for a roster of clients that includes British Airways, Discovery Networks and American Airlines Credit Union. Additionally, the firm last year integrated its itraffic subsidiary and launched a new brand identity.

At the time of Scales’ promotion to CEO, Chairman Suh credited him with guiding the evolution of the business and called him the “ideal person” to lead the agency forward.
