Android now has 1bn active users

I/O, Google's major developer conference happening in San Francisco this week, means a load of fresh stats. On the first day, Google have announced data about the increasing popularity of Android.

Google announced hitting a major milestone on Wednesday, during developer conference I/O: there are one billion active Android users.

The stat was revealed by Sundar Pichai, Google’s head of Android, who told attendees that researchers had predicted that Google would hit the one billion mark sometime this year.

Apple, by comparison, recently announced having sold “well over” 800 million iOS devices to date, though it didn’t reveal how many monthly active iOS users there are. Google also revealed a couple other memorable stats for the platform, including that Android users send 20 billion texts per day and 93 million selfies.
