It’s official. The BBC Trust has received proposals for the closure of BBC Three, in a move expected to save Auntie Beeb £65m.

The public’s “home of comedy” will be ditched and moved online, under new plans, which sparked public outrage when announced in March by director general Tony Hall.

The new proposals also include details for the launch of a BBC One+1 channel and improvements to BBC iPlayer.

Audience groups, licence fee payers and industry stakeholders will be invited to a public consultation expected to launch in January 2015.
