Execs and Accounts for October 11, 2002

Carat Interactive chooses ad server; E&Y exec tapped for ANA post.

Carat has chosen DoubleClick’s DART for Advertiser service as its preferred ad serving provider. Under the agreement, DoubleClick will provide ad serving solutions for all of Carat Interactive’s businesses throughout North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific for the next two years, for clients such as Renault and Vodafone.

Under a separate agreement, Carat International will use DoubleClick’s DARTmail solution in the UK and Spain for its email marketing needs. Carat will recommend both DoubleClick’s DART for Advertisers and DARTMail solutions to any clients for whom the company implements third party ad serving and email marketing solutions.

“We find DoubleClick an effective partner especially due to their multiple solutions and geographic reach,” said Nigel Morris, vice president of Carat International. “As the online advertising market continues to develop, a provider who can deliver multiple solutions worldwide will be increasingly important.”

James Speros, chief marketing officer of Ernst & Young LLP, was elected chairman of the board of the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) at its annual conference in Naples, Florida.

Speros joined E&Y in 1998, after serving as vice president of advertising and marketing communications for AT&T’s business services and multicultural marketing divisions. He also supervised advertising and direct marketing in 13 ethnic markets in the U.S., as well as global traveler advertising in the European, Asia/Pacific and Latin American regions. Prior to this, Speros managed and directed AT&T’s worldwide corporate communications program, including the well-known “You Will” ad campaign.

“The ANA is an extremely valuable resource to marketers facing the challenges of branding in a period of rapid change,” said Speros. “They provide strategic insight on all facets of brand building and through their committees, conferences and seminars, the ability to share knowledge with and gain experience from our peers. ”

Speros succeeds former ANA chair Dawn Hudson, president of Pepsi-Cola North America. James Stengel, global marketing officer for Procter & Gamble, was elected vice chairman. ANA’s other newly elected board members include marketing executives from Wal-Mart, General Motors, Kraft Foods, Anheuser-Busch, and BMW, among others.
