The feature is currently under trial – but could soon be available for perusing customers to click on list-style catalogues alongside Asda’s channel videos, which will prompt users to log into their Asda basket with a simple click.
The feature will allow users to stay within the YouTube framework – which is hoped to appeal to the button-clicking-happy impulse buyer.
Nick Bamber, head of sales, strategy and innovation at Asda, hinted the feature was soon to go live.
He said: “We’ve done some trials already.
“Has it proven to be successful? It depends on how you define success. For me it’s not about success but giving the customers the convenience. If they do want to buy it [through YouTube], it’s there as an option.”
The shoppable function is also hoped to iron over brand confusion with parent company Walmart – with many wondering how to shop Asda in the states and vice versa.
