The spectacle set new records for the platform with 618,725 tweets per minute discussing the action when the final whistle blew, the most ever recorded by the site.
Who was the most mentioned player?
Substitute goal scorer Mario Gotze was the most mentioned player in the German squad after clinching the winning (and only) goal whilst Lionel Messi inevitably claimed the title for the Argentinian side. Following the match German players took to the micro blog to share selfies of themselves celebrating on the pitch, posing with the famous golden trophy.
