Google gets whipped by Yahoo! as underdog gets higher share of web traffic

For the first time since 2011, Yahoo! has surpassed Google in its share of US web traffic, new statistics collected by ComScore have revealed.

For the first time since 2011, Yahoo! has surpassed Google in its share of US web traffic, new statistics collected by ComScore have revealed.

Yahoo saw an enormous 20% hike rise in traffic in 2012, allowing it to hit 196.8 million visitors in July, as opposed to Google’s 192.3 million.

New chief executive Marissa Meyer’s decision that Yahoo! acquire of both Flickr and Tumblr will have helped ad to Yahoo!’s garnered traffic, but ComScore did not include Tumblr’s statistics, meaning Yahoo! could have gained an even greater lead.

And so the battle of the search engine giants continues…
