Half the world to own smartphones by 2017

Smartphone penetration will be over 50% by 2017, according to a new survey by eMarketer.

According to a recent survey from digital experts eMarketer, global smartphone penetration will reach one-third in 2013 and will be over 50% by 2017.

In order to develop estimates of global mobile and smartphone usage and penetration, the research sought out 2,200 data points from more than 220 research sources.

The countries with the greatest mobile penetration rates were as follows:

  1. South Korea (60%)
  2. Norway
  3. Sweden Australia
  4. UK
  5. US

Investing in mobile and digital marketing is becoming more and more vital for the success of a company, as users continue to rapidly rise and technology spreads.
