Is Twitter sexist?

Twitter is the subject of a class action lawsuit after its promotion process has been labelled sexist by a former female employee.

Former software engineer Tina Huang filed the lawsuit in San Francisco last week (19 March) after claiming that Twitter’s promotion process unlawfully favours men.

Huang claims that promotions were formalised with a “shoulder tap” rather than an acceptable job posting process under a “black box” style of hiring cloaked in sexism.

A largely male environment that favoured men perpetuates Twitter’s management structure, added Huang.

Twitter responded by saying it was committed to “a diverse and supportive workplace.”

The social giant claims that she was snubbed for a promotion and was fired after raising her concerns.
