Facebook will include mobile advertising by the end of March 2012, according to a story this afternoon by Bloomberg. Industry observers have been waiting for clues on the company’s mobile ad strategy for more than a year.
According to the news report, Facebook is considering placing Sponsored Stories ads into the mobile news feed. No other particulars were detailed in the Bloomberg story, which cited two people with knowledge on the matter.
Facebook rep Brandon McCormick declined comment in response to a ClickZ query on Tuesday.
More than 350 million people worldwide access Facebook on their mobile devices, according to its own figures. Monetizing that traffic could create a potentially large new source of revenue on the eve of the company’s initial public offering, rumored to be slated for the first half of 2012.
According to an eMarketer estimate, Facebook will reel in $3.8 billion in ad revenue this year.
