Tweeting finally a legitimate word as it enters the Oxford English Dictionary

In a recent 'quiet announcement', the Chief Editor of the Oxford English Dictionary, John Simpson, has legitimised the noun and verb tweet by adding it to the latest edition of the OED.

In a recent ‘quiet announcement’, the Chief Editor of the Oxford English Dictionary, John Simpson, has legitimised the noun and verb tweet by adding it to the latest edition of the OED.

The entry reads that adding the words “breaks at least one OED rule, namely that a new word needs to be current for ten years before consideration for inclusion. But it seems to be catching on.”

Great news that the OED and Mr Simpson are getting on board the digital revolution; long may it continue!
