Retailer pledges up to 200,000 shots for those in need.
For nearly a month, every time someone checks in at a Walgreens on Foursquare or Facebook Places the retailer will donate a flu shot to an uninsured, underinsured, or financially in-need person. The initiative will run nationwide and in Puerto Rico from Sunday through Oct. 8, Adam Kmiec, the brand’s social media director, told ClickZ News.
Up to 200,000 flu shot vouchers will be distributed by Walgreens via five major cause organizations which, he said, will be announced on Monday. Flu season begins Oct. 1.
Due to a recent successful campaign on Foursquare with movie rentals brand Redbox, Kmiec said, Walgreens’ team expects to see more activity via that app compared to Facebook Places. But he emphasized the campaign is platform neutral.
“Foursquare has been a great partner, combining social with location,” he explained. “If people prefer to use Facebook Places… fantastic.”
