Zynga, developer of popular social games like Words With Friends, saw ad revenue climb to $28.2 million for the three-month period ended March 31. That represented an increase of $15 million compared to the same period the prior year.
In its earnings report released yesterday Zynga also said revenue from online games – its predominate business – totaled $292.8 million for the first three months of 2012, an increase of 27 percent compared to the same period last year. Total revenue reached $320.1 million.
In addition, the company recorded a net loss of $85.4 million for Q1 2012.
Zynga said it held eight of the top 10 games on Facebook, based on daily active users. Those games include CastleVille and Hidden Chronicles. Earlier this year, it introduced four titles for mobile, including Scramble with Friends, and Dream PetHouse. In March, it acquired Omgpop for $183 million; the company is known for its “Draw Something” mobile game.
Zynga advertisers have included Best Buy, Ford and McDonald’s.
